Black Pepper Drupes

Black Pepper Drupes

Pepper is used in almost everything. Together with salt it forms the best known partnership in condiment history. Salt is clearly made of salt, and everyone knows what salt is, but what is pepper?

“Black pepper is produced from the still-green unripe drupes of the pepper plant”- Wikipedia

These ‘drupes’ are then dried, which form the peppercorns we are accustomed to. This means that pepper grows on plants, interesting fact of the day.

Back to the food:

12:30- Muffin with butter, piece of brownie
17:00- Crisps and dip.
18:30- Big, fat salt and pepper breadsticks. From this recipe, the ‘sticks’ turned out considerably bigger than anticipated. Pictures to come. Lovely with some pepper ‘drupes’ on them.
19:45- Vegetable jalfrezi with rice and naan, from Jamie Oliver’s book ‘Ministry of Food’. Very good.

    Hi Tom. Interesting fact indeed.
I saw Lorraine made the salt and pepper breadsticks on the telly yesterday and it’s on my to-do list soon. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
