A Salary of Celery?

February 20, 2011

According to my dad, the word salary originates from the word celery. In some twisted tale he told the other night, people used to be paid in celery and over time the word celery changed into salary.

This is of course, completely wrong. The word salary actually originated from salarium, a Roman word meaning to give salt (or something similar). Moral of the story is do not accept celery as a form of payment for work, but gladly receive salt.

Eaten today:

12:00- Crumpets and a smell of some Marmite (stage one)

15:00- 3 pancakes

19:15- Roast pork, potatoes, green beans, carrot, cauliflower cheese.

Relevant celery fact: If you see celery in a dream… “it represents your need to be cleansed, either physically or emotionally. The dream may also be a pun on ‘salary'” How is it possible for a dream to be a pun?!
