How To Make A Giant Chocolate Cupcake

Here is my pictorial guide to making a GIANT cupcake.


350g of Self Raising Flour
350g of Caster Sugar
350g of Butter
6 Medium Eggs
2 Heaped Tbsp of Cocoa Powder (I use Cadbury’s Hot Chocolate – far superior)
1 Tbsp of Baking Power

For the Chocolate Ganache:

About 500g of Dairy Milk
About 550g of Creme (I used double creme)

The Butter must be soft so before you start leave it out for an hour, or put it in the microwave on low for 30 seconds.

Step 3

1) Turn your oven on to 170°C

2) Sieve the flour, baking power, cocoa power into a mixing bowl and add the sugar.

3) Add the butter and 6 eggs gradually whilst mixing with a fork (for about three minutes:

4) If too thick you can add water, but I doubt it will be. Evenly add to the giant cupcake mould (or just general greased baking tins)

5) Bake for about 30 minutes. Don’t open the oven for 30 minute and then check using a sharp knife.

6) Leave the cakes to cool on a cooling rack, do some trimming (if necessary) and then stick together using the Ganache or we used Nutella!

Chocolate Ganache

1) Melt the chocolate in a large bowl, either in a bain-marie or in the microwave. If using a microwave, melt in short bursts at medium/low power, stirring regularly, as chocolate burns very easily. You will find the chocolate will melt at a temperature which feels barely warm to the touch.

2) Boil the cream, either in a pan or a microwaveable jug.

3) Slowly and carefully pour the cream over the melted chocolate, stirring all the time to combine. If you find the cream is not mixing in easily, stop pouring and stir until smooth, then continue adding the cream a little at a time.

4) Allow the ganache to cool, then either cover well with cllingfilm or scoop into an airtight container and refrigerate. Ideally, leave to stand overnight before using.

Then Decorate!
