It's Just a Hair…

May 21, 2011

Finding a hair in your food has got to be one of most common reasons for complaint in the food industry and most people would agree for good reason. It is completely repulsive and totally changes your perception of the food you’ve been served and your opinion of the venue within which it was served.

A hairy looking bench. No real link to the story, just more pleasant than looking at hair in food

In the UK finding a hair in your food is a legitimate cause to complain at the very least, but also gives you a right to sue the establishment because it breaks the regulations of the UK Food Safety Act 1990 as it has been known to cause food poisoning. However, on the whole it doesn’t cause food poisoning, it causes a disgruntled response. As wikipedia puts it:

There are a range of possible reasons for the objection to hair in food, ranging from cultural taboos to the simple fact that it is difficult to digest and unpleasant to eat.

I’d agree, it is ‘unpleasant to eat’.

However, it’s not all bad; the protein found in hair is actually good for you, so if you are willing to overcome the unpleasantness or cultural taboo of eating hair, be sure to take a trip to your local hairdresser where you can graze on the protein packed hair field. I think I’ll just stick to chicken and eggs for mine though.

Following on from today’s early post here’s today’s food and a film trailer to go with it:

07.50 Croissant x2 with jam (a major break from Saturday morning tradition!)
10.00 Milka Chocolate bar
12.50 Cheese, tomato and cucumber roll x2
19.00 Dinner at Frankie & Benny’s:

Starter: Olives and bread (shared)
Main: Chicken Carbonara Calzone as described on their menu: Lashings of tender chicken breast, pancetta bacon and mushrooms with a creamy cheese sauce and grated Italian hard cheese.
Dessert: Chocolate Brownie Fudge Cake as described: Gooey chocolate sponge enriched with chocolate chips layered with velvety smooth chocolate fudge. Piled high with yet another layer of chocolate sponge, chocolate sauce and dark chocolate shavings. Served warm with your choice of cream or vanilla ice cream.

This is not a review, but the service was really very good, fast and served hot. So I guess that makes this a bit of a review. I also ate some sweets in the cinema, which brings us nicely to the trailer for ‘Blitz’ which I enjoyed and it also has a rating on 8.3 on IMDb.
